The guitar has various tunings for the strings.

There are also many tunings used in ki ho 'alu (slack key guitar). Ki ho 'alu is a style developed in Hawaii. It dates back to the late 1800's.

 

Standard Tuning: starting with the top string.Standard Tuning

  1. E at the frequency of 82 Hz
  2. A at the frequency of 110 Hz
  3. D at the frequency of 147 Hz
  4. G at the frequency of 196 Hz
  5. B at the frequency of 247 Hz
  6. E at the frequency of 330 Hz

This is the most common tuning. It is used for most music.

Drop-D Tuning: starting with the top string.Drop D Tuning

  1. D at the frequency of 73.42 Hz
  2. A at the frequency of 110 Hz
  3. D at the frequency of 147 Hz
  4. G at the frequency of 196 Hz
  5. B at the frequency of 247 Hz
  6. E at the frequency of 330 Hz

This tuning is used by heavy rock music. It allows playing "Power Chords" with just one finger.

Double Drop-D Tuning: starting with the top string.Double Drop D Tuning

  1. D at the frequency of 73.42 Hz
  2. A at the frequency of 110 Hz
  3. D at the frequency of 147 Hz
  4. G at the frequency of 196 Hz
  5. B at the frequency of 247 Hz
  6. D at the frequency of 293.66 Hz

This tuning is used by heavy rock music. It allows playing "Power Chords" with just one finger. And it makes playing Barre Chords easier.
